Towards the end of November 2017, I spent some time in Paris. It is a bit complicated. But I did. And for a few days – I sat in a few cemeteries. Not least, to clear my head of what I’d seen in Ein el-Hilweh.
I had spent the previous week in Lebanon. Taking pictures in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ein el-Hilweh. I was finishing off a picture book. About an inspirational young woman. I met her in 2015. Oyoun. She was helping a young Syrian boy. He had stopped talking because of the trauma he had suffered.
And on the Sunday, her brother gave me presents for my little boy. And two hours later – he was locked in a cell. For nothing.
And that is simply not fair.
